Coffee Loom is a specialty coffee roastery located a short walk from Kintetsu Nara Station, tucked away in the narrow streets of Naramachi.

The café occupies a renovated traditional Nara machiya (townhouse) that formerly operated as a snack bar, preserving the building’s original wooden character while creating a modern specialty coffee atmosphere. The renovation and interior design were created by Kazumura Hide (instagram.com/h.m_de), whose portfolio also includes the shop designs for Yoshihara, Ha Ra, and Pota Pota. A large roasting machine stands at the entrance, with a small, intimate eat-in space located behind it.

Before opening its permanent Naramachi location on December 3, 2025, Coffee Loom operated as a “challenge shop” near Ikoma Station from July to September 2025. The name “Loom” refers to a weaving loom, reflecting the idea that many stories can be woven from a single thread.

The owner previously worked at Takamura Coffee Roasters, where he developed his knowledge and technical skills in specialty coffee. That experience is evident in every step of the brewing process—watching him roast, grind, and carefully prepare each cup reveals the confidence and precision of an experienced coffee professional.

Coffee Loom specializes in house-roasted specialty coffee, roasting, grinding, and brewing its coffee on-site. Drinks are served in heat-retaining ceramic cups, while whole coffee beans and drip bags are also available for purchase.

The menu focuses entirely on coffee, with no food offerings. Visitors can enjoy freshly brewed coffee in the café while experiencing the roasting process firsthand.

Coffee Loom’s appeal lies in its combination of freshly roasted specialty coffee, visible on-site roasting, and its setting within a restored machiya in the heart of Naramachi. Combined with the owner’s evident expertise and meticulous approach to coffee, it offers a quiet, craft-focused coffee experience.
