Welcome to Blue Bottle Coffee Kobe branch, one of 25 branches in total in Japan and the 4th (Blue Bottle Coffee Kyoto, Blue Bottle Coffee Kiyamachi and Blue Bottle Coffee Rokkaku) featured here on Taste of Kansai. The Kobe branch is one of the bigger more spacious branches in Japan with over 50 seats. It's located on an elevated "ground" floor of the NTT building right next to Issey Miyake and while it has large steps in front of the shop to reach it, it can also be accessed by people in wheelchairs on by the ramps at either end of the steps. The cafe is designed by Schemata Architects and opened its doors in July of 2018.
The exterior of the cafe is white with 3 large glass sections of which two are entrances to the cafe. Once inside you will find a spacious interior with a peculiar brass frame coffee order counter island in the middle of the shop. Surrounding the island is furniture designed by Karimoku New Standard and consists or tables with dining chairs and taller tables with counter chairs. There is also a small sofa section near the window. It has a minimal urban style interior design with lots of concrete and a high bare ceiling giving the cafe a more spacious feeling.
Blue Bottle Kobe has a large menu with a wide variety of drinks and sweets. It's main items are, as with every Blue Bottle Coffee cafe written on wooden slats above the order counter. There are many espresso drinks, drip, ice coffee and tea or non-coffee items as well. For sweets they have cookies, granola, cakes and waffles. They also have a large selection of original goods for the dei-hard blue bottle fans.
Blue Bottle Kobe's staff is super friendly, opens early in the morning and is located on a walking distance from Kobe tower, Meriken park and Sannomiya making it a great place to drop by during an outing. A visit is highly recommended.
