Tucked away in a North-East Kyoto alley, 'Souzen' (instagram.com/souzen_kissa_kyoto) is a charming café that opened on May 11, 2024. It is a five-minute walk from Eizan Line's Ichijoji Station, but can be somewhat challenging to find, hidden behind a house in a narrow alley between two large white houses and across from a large red brick building. The name Souzen is derived from the four-character idiom "Kuiro sozen," which describes the way the surroundings become dim at dusk. The owner selected this name to evoke a nostalgic and warm atmosphere, reminiscent of the feelings experienced at dusk.

The café occupies a single-story building, boasting a stylish exterior with a mortar façade, complemented by a beautiful antique dark wooden door and window frame. Above the stylish shop's logo, next to the door, hangs a chic French antique brass light. A small garden with a partial mortar fence is situated in front of the shop. The windows feature partially frosted glass, allowing visitors to see outside while maintaining some privacy within.

Inside, the café exudes a rustic and cozy ambiance, skillfully blending traditional and modern elements. The interior showcases a minimalist style with mortar walls and a concrete floor. To contrast this minimalism, the space features wooden diagonal paneling on one wall, the building's original wood framework, and antique rustic furniture, all adding warmth and coziness. Additionally, dry plants and flowers are incorporated throughout, bringing a natural element to the space.

The menu offers baked goods made with carefully selected ingredients, light meals, coffee, and some alcoholic drinks as well as selling baked goods online and ship them. For lunch the menu offers a quiche plate, sandwich plate or cake sale (pronounced sah-lay) is savory pastry originating in France. All plates come with salad and soup. For sweets the cafe offers parfaits as well as small sweets like cake (gateau chocolat, cheese cake, carrot cake), tarts, muffin, scones and cookies.

Souzen is a stylish cafe with a comfortable ambiance that sells delicious lunch plates and sweets, great for relaxing time and a visit is highly recommended.

京都北東部に、2024年5月にオープンした素敵なカフェ「蒼然　そうぜん」instagram.com/souzen_kissa_kyoto　があります。叡山線一乗寺駅から徒歩で5分のところに、小さな路地に位置しており、赤レンガのマンションの向こう側に二つの大きい白い家の裏に隠しています。店名の由来は「暮色蒼然」という四文字熟語から拝借されて、「夕暮れ時の、あたり一面が薄暗くなっていくさま」という意味のこちらの言葉。オーナーが夕暮れ時に感じるどこか懐かしくあたたかい空気感を纏ったお店にしたいという想いをこめてつけました。

カフェは1階建ての平屋の建物にあり、モルタルのファサードを備えたスタイリッシュな外観で、美しいアンティークのダークウッドのドアと窓枠がそれを引き立てています。お店のおしゃれなロゴの上、ドアの横にはシックなフランスアンティークの真鍮製の照明が壁に掛かっています。お店の前に小さな庭とモルタル性の塀があります。お店の窓は一部曇りカラスになっており、お客様は店内のプライバシーを保ちながら外を見ることができます。

店内は、伝統とモダンが巧みに融合したラスティックで居心地の良い雰囲気を醸し出しています。内装は、モルタルの壁とコンクリートの床でミニマスタイルを演出しています。このミニマリズムとは対照的に、片方の壁には木製の斜めのパネルが貼られ、建物のオリジナルの木製フレームとアンティークのラスティックな家具が温かみと居心地の良さを演出しています。さらに、ドライ プラントや花が随所に取り入れられ、空間に自然の要素が加わっています。

メニューは厳選した材料を使った焼き菓子、軽食、コーヒー又はアルコールがあります。焼き菓子はオンライン販売や発送も行っています。ランチメニューはキッシュプレート、サンドイッチプレート、ケーキサレ（発音はサレー　「ケーキサレはフランス発祥のおいしいペストリーです。」）から選べます。すべてのプレートにサラダとスープが付きます。スイーツはパフェやケーキ（ガトーショコラ、チーズケーキ、キャロットケーキ）、タルト、マフィン、スコーン、クッキーなどの小菓子も提供されています。

Souzenは、美味しいランチプレートやスイーツを販売する、居心地の良い雰囲気のおしゃれなカフェです。ゆっくりとくつろぐのにおすすめです。
