ROU Coffee (instagram.com/rou.coffee) is a small café in the countryside of Tamba-Sasayama, Hyogo, tucked into an older building that is shared with a bookstore and a curry shop. It’s a small and relaxed café with a friendly atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
The name ROU comes from the owner’s name, Shintarou (instagram.com/shintaro_1997), with the café’s logo written simply as ロウ in katakana. Shintarou is originally from Takarazuka, and his cheerful, genki-ippai personality is a big part of the café’s character. His friendly presence gives the small space a lively and welcoming atmosphere.
The café focuses on coffee, offering a simple and approachable place to enjoy a cup while taking a break from exploring the surrounding area. Rather than being a large café with an extensive menu, ROU Coffee has the intimate feel of a small independent coffee shop where the personality of the owner and the quality of the coffee are central to the experience.
IInside, the café is small but thoughtfully arranged, with large windows along the side and glass sliding doors at the front, allowing plenty of natural light to come in from two directions. Warm wooden cabinetry runs beneath the windows, while plants and ceramics add a personal touch throughout the space. A small shelf displays and sells local ceramics, adding a nice connection to the surrounding area. Next to the kitchen, a large green marble table with counter seating provides a beautiful spot for customers to sit.
What makes ROU Coffee special is the personality behind the shop. Shintarou’s cheerful and energetic character comes through in the atmosphere, making this small café feel warm, relaxed, and very personal. It’s a lovely little stop for good coffee and a chance to experience one of the more unique independent cafés in Tamba-Sasayama.
