If you're searching for an exceptional Mexican eatery in Kyoto, look no further than Que Pasa Downtown - instagram.com/quepasa_burrito, run by the warm and welcoming Ryota K - instagram.com/burritomakio. Fluent in English from his time in the United States, Ryota later pursued studies at the prestigious Tokyo University before deciding to bring his dream of creating the perfect burrito to life—and thus, Que Pasa was born. This downtown location is the second branch of Que Pasa, with the original branch in Marutamachi (Que Pasa Marutamachi) reopening in April 2024. Conveniently located just a five-minute walk from either Hankyu Kyoto-Karasuma Station or Kawaramachi Station, Que Pasa Downtown occupies a cozy corner on the ground floor, nestled at a small intersection one block south of Shijo Dori.
The Downtown branch is a small cozy establishment, offering just 10 counter seats—4 by the window and 6 along the open kitchen. Given its popularity and limited seating, you may encounter some waiting times, but the lively atmosphere and delicious food make it well worth the wait.
The menu at Que Pasa Downtown features California-style burritos with three sizes to choose from: Half, Regular, and King. Customers can customize their burritos by selecting fillings such as chicken, beef, pork, vegetarian, or vegan options. Additional toppings like guacamole, sour cream, and extra cheese are available for those who want to enhance their meal. Alongside burritos, the menu offers quesadillas, tacos, nachos, and snacks like chips with salsa or guacamole. Drinks include soft drinks, beer, whiskey soda, and margaritas, catering to both casual diners and those looking for an indulgent treat.
