Description
O AWAJI opened on April 4, 2026, in the Nakata area of Awaji City. Situated near the Shizuki district, the café is easily accessible by car and offers plenty of parking.
The name “O” carries layered meaning. It refers to the shape of a donut while also evoking the idea of a circle or ring, symbolizing connection between people, time, and the intentions of its makers. This concept is reflected in both the design of the space and the overall experience.
From the outside, the building retains the appearance of a large white warehouse, repurposed from a former factory. Inside, the atmosphere shifts to something far more refined. The interior is bright and spacious, centered around a striking circular counter. Long hardwood benches line the room, maintaining an open and relaxed feel. The contrast between the rugged industrial exterior and the carefully composed, photogenic interior defines the café’s visual identity, with the donut display serving as a focal point.
The menu focuses on freshly made donuts and coffee, with a concise selection of around five varieties prepared in-house each day. Offerings typically include classics such as sugar, chocolate, and old-fashioned, alongside seasonal or specialty options. Drinks range from coffee and lattes to matcha lattes and Naruto orange squash. The use of local ingredients, particularly Awaji Island milk and yogurt, gives the donuts a light texture and a gentle dairy richness. The owner is also a friend of the owner of Loose Coffee in Kyoto, reflecting a shared sensibility rooted in thoughtful café culture.
As a café, O AWAJI is defined by its striking interior. A circular counter anchors the bright, open space, surrounded by long wooden benches that create a calm, minimalist atmosphere. Set against the building’s raw industrial shell, this contrast gives the café a distinctive identity, making it stand out within Awaji Island’s evolving café scene.
