Description
Just a two-minute walk from Karasuma-Oike Station on the Karasuma Line (exit 6), tucked around the corner from Starbucks, lies the chic and contemporary cafe, 'Astarte Coffee & Pastry' instagram.com/astarte_coffee_and_pastry/ . This cafe, which opened its doors in June 2024, is the second branch of Astrea Coffee. The name Astarte is inspired by a major Eastern goddess, echoing the celestial naming convention of its sister branch, Astrea, which draws from Greek mythology.
Located on the ground floor of a tall apartment building, Astarte Coffee & Pastry features a full width glass exterior with large sliding doors, offering a welcoming and easily accessible entrance, perfect for all visitors, including those in wheelchairs.
Upon entering, you're greeted by a modern, minimalist interior that blends mortar and wood elements. The dark color scheme is softened by the warmth of a wooden bench, a glass pastry showcase, and strategically placed plants. The cafe is illuminated by stylish Edison pendant lights above the counter, adding a touch of vintage charm. At the front and back of the kitchen, swing-arm wall lamps with special bulbs encourage the growth of the plants below, creating a dynamic and lively atmosphere. Towards the back of the cafe, there’s a small intimate seating area featuring an L-shaped wooden bench against a wall with a rough, unfinished texture. The abstract patterns and indentations on the wall contribute to the space's industrial and urban vibe.
The menu at Astarte Coffee & Pastry offers a range of expertly crafted coffee options, including espresso, cortado, americano, latte, mocha, and even flavored varieties like caramel, vanilla, and hazelnut. Customers can also opt for extra milk or oat milk. For those who prefer cold beverages, there’s cold brew available with a selection of different blends. Non-coffee drinkers can enjoy alternatives like matcha latte, lemonade, or apple juice. To complement the drinks, the cafe offers an array of delicious pastries, including banana bread, muffins, and croissant variations like egg croissant, ham & cheese, red bean paste butter sandwich, and seasonal specialties.
Astarte Coffee & Pastry is the perfect spot to start your day, whether you're stopping by for a quick morning break or a leisurely treat, opening early (at 7:30) the cafe serves delicious coffee and sweets in a stylish, welcoming setting.
