When it comes to food, Japan doesn’t disappoint. There is a vast selection of different eateries and foods to explore.
But sometimes you just want something more simple, a delicious hamburger for example, and while hamburger joints are increasing, good ones might be a bit harder to find.
Osaka
Along the crowded Tosabori-Dori near Higobashi station is ‘Eight To Five’, a cozy café that serves delicious Cuban Sandwiches among other delicious things.
Eight To Five is located on the ground floor of an antiquated European style building and is recognizable by the large western style sign attached to the building. The interior consists of creamy white walls combined with dark floors, dark counter and dark wood furniture that gives the café a warm and cozy atmosphere.
There is a breakfast and a lunch menu that offers a variety of delicious dishes including: pancakes, grilled cheese sandwich, hamburger and even a Cuban sandwich. Absolutely mouthwatering. The coffee comes straight from Brooklyn Coffee Roasters so guaranteed quality coffee.
Eight to Five is a cozy café with a delicious menu recommended for a nice breakfast or lunch.
Yes!Burger has some fantastic hamburgers and is conveniently located between Utsubo park and Honmachi station.
From the outside Yes!Burger doesn’t look like a typical hamburger place. The stylish exterior with dry flower decoration and the big window with a view on the tables inside make it seem like a casual cafe.
Inside it has a spacious and deep interior with some tables near the entrance, a counter next to the wide-open kitchen and a few wall-mounted-tables in the back. All tables are for are for up to two persons. It will be difficult to sit inside with larger groups especially during the busy hours.
Yes!Burger has a selection of 9 different burgers. Cheddar Cheese Burger, Mushroom Burger, Chili Jalapeno Burger and Avocado Smash burger are just a few of the choices available. The burger is delivered on a wooden board with a portion of delicious French fries on the side.
Enjoy your delicious burger at the cafe or take out and enjoy it at the nearby Utsubo park.
Smack-dab in the middle of the stylish Nakazakicho area is ‘Dexter Diner’, a trendy little burger joint, famous for it’s hand-made burgers.
Dexter-Diner has a simple grey concrete exterior. In front of the shop on top of a stool sits a big fake plastic burger and an American flag is hanging below the take out window. On the window next to the entrance is a stylish ‘Dexter Diner’ logo that is a very popular focus point for the instagrammers.
The cafe might be a little hard to find as it has an inwards exterior somewhat hidden from plain-view.
The interior of Dexter Diner has no tables but instead has two counters, opposite of each other, with seats for up to 8 to 10 people. So we recommend coming early or you have to wait.
Both interior and exterior are decorated with dry flowers and antique elements.
Their main menu consists mostly of hamburgers but they also sell BLT’s and hotdogs among other dishes. There are two types of hamburgers: “basic and unique” and if that doesn’t satisfy your needs you can always order extra toppings like “extra cheese or avocado etc”.
Ideal for a lunch and after that a stroll in the Nakazakicho area.
In the center of Osaka, located on a 3 minute walk from Shinsaibashi station is Critters Burger that serves…well…. hamburgers.
It’s located in a remote part of Shinsaibashi, surrounded by hotels and apartment buildings but stands out with its lovely wooden façade. Critters Burger is on the groundfloor in a concrete building contrasting with the glass and wood board exterior. It’s a sister shop of Critters Pizza and The Pie Shop, that are located in the vicinity.
The shop has a Southern American touch with the cactus, the deer skull and the American flag as well as its furniture. That in combination with the neon light and the dark tones give it a cozy feeling.
Critters has a large menu with a large selection of burgers with different toppings. There are 30 to choose from that range from a simple hamburger to a more elaborate ‘Mozzarella Mushroom Bacon Burger’ and many other delicious variants. Their premium burger however is their Wagyu Burger. All of the burgers come with a side of fries OR salad. They also have waffles, pancakes, sandwiches and a big side dish menu. Something for anyone.
Critters Burger is located conveniently in central Osaka and near the station, has a lovely vibe and sells fantastic hamburgers making it one of our favorite hamburger places in Osaka.
Between Yotsubashi Station and Nishi-Nagahori Station is the popular and trendy hamburger joint called Gakuya Burger.
Gakuya has a funky and wild exterior and interior. The interior is quite narrow but some seats have a great view over the park in front of the café.
The hamburger is order made starting with a standard burger that consists of a pork patty, tomato, lettuce and french fries. You can choose from the following toppings: cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, jalapeno, grilled onion, pine apple, extra patty, avocado, and more which will cost extra. On top of that you can also choose between an original bun or a charcoal bun as well as the type of sauce you’d like with the burger: basil, grated radish & soy sauce, sweet chilli or wasabi.
The burgers and the fries taste absolutely fantastic which is why this place is so popular so come early or expect waiting lines or sold out toppings.
