Opened in October 2021, this lovely little sandwich shop called "Subs Sandwich store" sits on a short walk from Keihan Line - Jingu Marutamachi station. It's tucked away in a quiet Kyoto neighborhood inside a former Kyomachiya and shares the building with a kimono rental shop.

The façade features a typical Japanese style exterior with a latticed bay window, sugiyaki paneling, your typical ichimonji rooftiles and noren in front of the entrance. Passing through the noren you will step into a small courtyard that has two entrances, with the entrance to Subs right in front of you and the entrance to the kimono rental shop to the right.

Upon entering Subs, you'll find yourself at the building's entrance. Directly in front of you, you'll encounter the Subs kitchen and counter, formerly the machiya kitchen area, distinguishable by the tall ceiling of the hibukuro. The shop's layout is rather narrow, housing only the kitchen and counter seats. This design allows customers to enjoy the view of their food being prepared right before their eyes while also having a pleasant conversation with the friendly owner.

The shop retains much of its original charm, with features like the sand walls, wooden sliding doors, windows, and wood frame work, all combined with a few American elements giving it a unique charm.

While visiting, be sure to take a moment to visit the restroom, conveniently located in the adjacent kimono shop. Head through the double glass sliding doors near the entrance, and you'll pass through a charming kimono rental shop and an inner courtyard to reach the restroom. The delightful view in this area is truly a must-see during your visit.

Subs is an American-style sandwich shop, offering an extensive menu filled with a variety of delicious sandwiches. 建物の外観は出格子、杉焼き板で覆われている壁、一文字瓦、そして入口に掛かっているのれんで伝統的な和風スタイルを持っています。のれんをくぐると、2つの入口がある小さな中庭があります。右側が着物レンタル店の入り口になり、正面がSubsの入り口となっています。Subsの入口に入ると、最初に建物の玄関に入り、真っすぐ進むとSubsのお店にたどり着きます。お店の天井が高くて、火袋のようなもので、元々は町家の台所でした。お店はキッチンとカウンター席でしかない狭い空間ですが、お客様は料理の準備を見ながら待ったり、スタッフとの楽しい会話を楽しむことができます。リノベーションが施されても、土壁、木製の引き戸、窓、木組みなど、ほぼそのまま残されており、アメリカの要素が取り入れられ、独自のユニークな内装となっています。

お店を訪れる際には、すぐ隣にあるトイレに立ち寄ることを忘れなく、玄関のガラスの両引き戸を通って進むと、素敵で魅力的な着物レンタル屋さんと内庭を抜けてトイレにたどり着きますが、訪問中に必見です。
