cafe Marronnier

On a seven minute walk from Sakaisuji Line’s Tengachaya station and nearby Shotenyama park is ‘Cafe Maronnier’ a lovely kominka cafe that is run by an elderly couple and their son. The husband used to be an architect and renovated the place.

The cafe is slightly hidden, covered by a large ivy bush. Even the entrance is covered by the ivy and you have to slightly duck when going inside. The small path leads to the entrance of the cafe.

Inside you will find a lovely retro interior where it seems time has stopped. The entire showa era interior consists of dark brown wood that shows signs of weathering. The cafe is decorated with many antiques.

The interior is somewhat narrow with to the left of the entrance seven small tables for two of which one is tucked away in a narrow corner in the back and one table comes with a pair seat sofa. Then to the right of the entrance there are also a few counter seats in the separate room in front of the kitchen.

They sell delicious sandwish plates and sweets.

It's a lovely hidden retro cafe in the middle of Osaka with a cozy atmosphere that deserves a visit.

堺筋線の天下茶屋駅から徒歩で7分ぐらいに、聖天山公園の近くにご夫婦とその息子さんとで営まれている素敵古民家カフェ「マロニエ」があります。夫は元建築家でカフェのリノベーションを担当しました。

カフェは隠れ家のように、大きな蔦の木に隠れています。入口も蔦に覆われて、入る時に首を前に傾かないと。路地がカフェの入地にたどり着きます。

店内のはインテリアは時が止まったよう、レトロのスタイルになっています。昭和時代のイメージで、ダークウッドがメインで店内は色んな骨董品で飾れています。店内は割と狭くて、入口の左側に2人用のテーブルは７つで一つはソファ「ペアシート」で、入口の右側のキッチンの前の窓側にカウンター席があります。

メニュにはサンドイッチプレートと色んなスイーツがあります。

とても素敵な隠れ家のようなレトロのカフェです。
