‘Blend Kyoto’ is a new stylish coffee-specialty shop with an interesting concept and owner.

The cafe is located on the corner of  Takeyamachi-dori and Fuyacho-dori and nearby Kyoto Gyoen National park. The café is on a walking distance from three different stations, Marutamachi Station, Kyoto Shiyakusho-Mae and Jingu-Marutamachi station so extremely accessible.

The owner is a young and energetic coffee specialist who after working for other cafes decided to go independent, with ‘Blend Kyoto’ as the result.

Blend Kyoto is a Kyomachiya (Kyoto townhouse) renovated into a stylish coffee specialty shop.

From the outside Blend Kyoto looks like an ordinary Kyoto style building. It has the typical wood board exterior and aluminum window grills on the first floor, Japanese rooftiles and the very typical entrance with aluminum sliding doors, the interior however has a dark and minimal design.

*You can enter Blend Kyoto and eat-in but it also has a window for take-out. However the limited supply of sweets are only available for customers who order and eat-in.

The interior mainly consists of black wood (counter, floor, tree trunk table with bench with glass elements (lamps, coffee goods, drinking glasses) here and there.

*At time of writing, due to corona seats are limited to a small bench with table and two counter chairs on each side of the glass/wood showcase. This means for customers wanting to eat-in to expect a waiting time. The number of seats will be increased after the pandemic.

Ordering your coffee happens at the counter where the owner will eagerly ask your taste and preference and then delightedly explain all the various kinds of blends and its origins that are available. You can choose from 5 different kinds of blends that are in the small chrome and brass jars on the counter in front of you. The owner will open them and let you smell the various beans. Your choice of beans can then be mixed in a variety of ways, making your drink unique to your taste.

After the blend is selected, the owner will grind the beans and then prepare the coffee. (If he is in a very good mood he will put on quite a show).

When the coffee is done, it will be poured into a Blend Kyoto custom made glass and delivered to you on a stylish black granite tray.

Now is the time to enjoy your personal blend!

As you almost finish your coffee and look down into the glass, a small surprise in the shape of a word or message will appear at the bottom of the glass. (e.g. okibariyasu which translates into “Good luck!” in Kyoto dialect).  There are a total of five random messages for you to discover.

“A new taste of coffee.” That is the experience after visiting Blend Kyoto, a unique coffee-specialty shop and take out café with a cheerful and friendly owner that makes for an exciting visit.
