Kissa Banco (instagram.com/kissa_banco) is a café located in Minami Awaji City on Awaji Island, which opened on April 8, 2023. The café occupies a renovated building that formerly served as the Anaga branch of Awaji Shinkin Bank. With its historic exterior preserved, the building retains a nostalgic charm that reflects the area's past. Located along the main road that runs through the small town, the café faces the ocean and is partially surrounded by nature, offering a balanced setting of local life and natural scenery.

The interior features a simple yet warm design that makes extensive use of natural wood. Large windows allow soft natural light to enter the space, creating a bright and cozy ambiance. The interior of Kissa Banco reflects the vision of Mr. Hiroo Nakao, who was inspired to repurpose the former credit union building upon learning of its closure. Aiming to revitalize the local fishing town, he closed his well-regarded lunch box shop “SHIKON” in Fukura to open an accommodation above the café, limited to one group per day. The guest rooms are furnished with rare vintage pieces he collected during his time in the apparel industry, resulting in a cave-like space with a carefully curated aesthetic. On the café’s first floor, the interior features warm wooden elements and a striking curved kitchen counter. Other notable details include a vintage folding bench upholstered with William Morris fabric, which adds to the nostalgic yet refined atmosphere. The design also incorporates traditional local elements such as “Dan tiles” from Awaji City and “total tiles” from Minami-Awaji City, blending them with rare designer furniture and modern aesthetics curated by the founder, who previously worked in the apparel industry.

Kissa Banco's menu includes a delightful blend of Western and Japanese breakfast influences centered around their toast offerings. Their "TOAST" section features various tempting options including classic butter toast, sugar-butter toast, aromatic cinnamon toast, and several gourmet variations with cheese, ham, and egg combinations, all served with salad. Accompanying these toast selections is an extensive beverage menu divided into Coffee, Tea, Soft Drink, Float, and Hand Made Syrup categories. Coffee choices range from standard brews to cappuccinos and specialty lattes, while the tea selection includes traditional options like matcha and hojicha in both hot and iced versions. Their handmade syrups add a unique touch, with specialty options like Ginger Ale, Lemon Squash, and their newly released Naru Tonic providing refreshing alternatives to standard café beverages.

2023年4月にオープンした「喫茶バンコ」は、淡路島の南あわじ市にあります。元は淡路信用金庫阿那賀支店として使われていた建物を改装したカフェで、歴史的な外観をそのまま残し、昔ながらのノスタルジックな魅力を今に伝えています。小さな町を通る主要道路沿いに位置し、海に面していて、周囲は部分的に自然に囲まれています。

店内は、木材をふんだんに使った、シンプルでありながら温かみのあるデザインが特徴です。大きな窓からは柔らかな自然光が差し込み、明るく心地よい空間が広がっています。
喫茶バンコの内装は、建物の閉鎖を知った中尾博夫さんの構想によって生まれました。地元の漁師町・福良で長年親しまれてきた弁当店「SHIKON」を閉店し、地域の新たな魅力を創出すべく、カフェの2階に1日1組限定の宿泊施設をオープンしました。
客室には、アパレル業界で活躍していた中尾さんが集めた希少なヴィンテージ家具が配されており、まるで洞窟のような空間は、細部にまでこだわった美しいデザインに仕上がっています。
カフェの1階には、ぬくもりのある木材と緩やかな曲線を描くキッチンカウンターが印象的な空間が広がり、ウィリアム・モリスのファブリックが張られたヴィンテージの折りたたみベンチなどが、懐かしさと洗練をあわせ持つ雰囲気を醸し出しています。
また、淡路市の「段瓦」や南あわじ市の「総瓦」といった地元の伝統素材を取り入れつつ、アパレル業界出身の創業者によるモダンな美意識と調和させたデザインも魅力のひとつです。

喫茶バンコでは、トーストを中心とした、和と洋を組み合わせた朝食メニューになっています。
「トースト」には、定番のバタートースト、シュガーバタートースト、シナモントーストの上に、チーズやハム、卵を使ったアレンジトーストなど、キーマカレートースト、クロックムッシュなどが揃っています。すべてサラダ付きで提供されます。
ドリンクは、コーヒー、紅茶、ソフトドリンク、フロート、手作りシロップのドリンクなどがあります。コーヒーは定番のブリューから、カプチーノやラテまであり、紅茶もホット・アイスともから選ばれます。また、抹茶やほうじ茶といった日本茶も用意されています。
手作りのシロップを使ったドリンクは個性が光り、ジンジャーエール、レモンスカッシュ、そして新登場の「ナルトニック」など、定番のカフェドリンクとはひと味違った爽快な味わいが魅力です。
