Culmal

Smakdab in central Osaka, on a five minute walk from Tanimachi Line’s Tenmabashi station (exit 4) is the lovely ‘Culmal’ shop. Culmal is a muffin specialty shop and café that opened it’s doors in July 2022 and is located in a busy residential/office district. It’s the second shop of Picco Latte , a famous dry flower decorated sweets cafe located in Nakazakicho area. Culmal sits on the groundfloor of an office building and stands out with its lovely renovated exterior. The renovation of the shop was done by the skilled Chienoma renovation company.

Culmal has a stylish weathered mortar exterior produced by ms-painter with a beautiful off white paneled façade and large windows. The floor in front of the entrance has beautiful elegant soft edged tiles that continue all the way into the shop. Entering the shop you will immediately face the beautiful glass/wood counter filled with delicious muffins. On the right is a small café area with a large antique table and two chairs, two smaller round wall tables with simple but lovely brass pendant lights hanging above the tables and on the left of the entrance are four more counter seats along the window. On top of that is also an outdoor table and chair set for when the weather allows it.

Culmal sells two types of muffins, (oyatsu muffin) which are sweet muffins or (okazu muffin) which are muffins with a more savory flavor. However the okazu muffins are being sold from 11:00. Muffins come in 16 flavors (black sesame banana, lemon (with peel), pine apple coconut, caramel banana, choco walnut, cafe aulait, any many more), each and every single one absolutely delicious. You can also take out, culmal sells small bags and box sets (for 6 or 12) of muffins, which make for a nice gift. For people eating in there is also a delicious tiramisu tart. Drinks include coffee ( coffee, cafe latte (480), caramel latte), tea as well as lemonade, apple juice or white grape fruit juice.

During weekdays, the cafe opens early in the morning at 08:30 if you are looking for a sweet morning bite. The cafe is also located on a five minute walk from Osaka Castle so it could be combined with an outing.

Culmal is a lovely muffin shop with a huge selection of freshly baked muffins that can be enjoyed with a coffee inside the stylish shop and comes recommended not just for its muffins but also for its renovated exterior and interior.
