About
Kimito Coffee Roastery (instagram.com/kimito_coffee/) , also known as きみと珈琲 Biwako Roastery, opened in February 2021 as the third-generation café in the VOID A PART space in Hikone, Shiga. As the first self-roasting coffee shop in the area, it’s carved out its own identity, offering a warm and inviting spot for both locals and visitors.
The café’s interior is bright and open, with plenty of natural light streaming through the large front windows. One of the first things you’ll notice is the impressive roasting machine positioned near the front—a clear sign of the café’s passion for fresh, quality beans. The space has a cozy, lived-in feel, complete with a library corner and shelves lined with carefully selected books and goods. It’s the kind of place where you’ll want to settle in and stay a while.
Run by a friendly husband-and-wife duo, Kimito Coffee Roastery has a welcoming vibe that makes you feel like a regular, even on your first visit. They’re often chatting with customers, creating a relaxed and familiar atmosphere.
The star of the menu is their house-roasted coffee, especially the signature Biwako Roastery Blend —a smooth, floral, easy-to-drink brew that reflects the gentle pace of life in Shiga. For those who like to explore, there’s a rotating lineup of blends and single-origin beans ranging from bright and fruity to rich and bold. You can enjoy them by the cup or pick up a bag to take home.
If coffee isn’t your thing, they’ve got you covered with decaf, organic apple juice, and hojicha. And don’t skip the food—homemade cheesecakes and scones (baked by the owner’s wife) are local favorites, along with hearty sandwiches made with fresh local veggies and artisanal bread.
Kimito Coffee Roastery is the kind of place that feels both down-to-earth and special. Whether you’re into specialty coffee, homemade treats, or just looking for a peaceful spot to unwind, this café in Hikone is definitely worth a visit.
