About

Flow by Nozy Coffee (instagram.com/flow_by_nozycoffee ) is a stylish cafe that opened in January, 2026, as the first Kyoto outpost of the Tokyo-based specialty roaster NOZY COFFEE , positioned just a short walk from both Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Line and Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station on the Hankyu Line. Set along the Kamo River where it meets the historic Takase River, the cafe’s name “flow” reflects the continuous movement of water and seasonal changes in the surrounding landscape, a concept the brand ties to the experience of spending time in the shop. Customers arriving from the busy Shijo-Kawaramachi area encounter a setting that transitions from the bustle of central Kyoto to a calmer riverside environment, positioning the cafe as a bridge between the city’s commercial core and its more contemplative riverfront.

The café is housed in a traditional renovated Kyoto townhouse (kyomachiya), featuring a refined black exterior. Large glass-panel demado (bay window) and a glass door entrance on the ground floor offer clear views into the interior, while a traditional koushi demado baywindow sits on the second floor. Inside you will find a narrow deep interior that opens toward the Kamo River. The cafe spans two floors , with a sleek, contemporary interior focused on clean lines, muted tones, and natural light. The café is arranged across two levels, each with terrace seating and river views, and filled with natural light from large, river-facing windows. The first floor is a standing-only space centered around the bar, allowing customers to experience the brewing process up close. Upstairs, the second floor offers a more relaxed setting with a communal table and terrace seating where guests can sit and linger.

The menu centers on single-origin coffee, with a particular focus on a “Journey Flight” tasting course made up of three drinks selected in conversation with the customer, allowing the barista to curate a progression tailored to each visit rather than offering a fixed combination. Standard offerings include hand-brewed filter coffee and espresso-based drinks, complemented by original beverages such as coffee cocktails and in-house-brewed coffee beer that are not available at the brand’s Tokyo flagship, THE ROASTERY. Light food is available in the form of baked sweets, savory cheese sandwhiches and sausage rolls suited to both daytime coffee breaks and evening visits, complementing the delicious drinks.

Flow by Nozy Coffee positions itself as a riverside hub where specialty coffee, design, and local culture intersect, rather than simply functioning as another Kyoto cafe. The combination of central yet riverfront location, interior and exterior that respond to the surrounding landscape, and a barista-led menu built around the Journey Flight format establishes a clear identity within Kyoto’s competitive coffee scene. With excellent coffee and food, welcoming staff who speak fluent English, a stylish interior, and river views, a visit to Flow By Nozy Coffee comes highly recommended.
