Tucked away in the outskirts of West Kyoto lies another lovely cafe, “ Westend Coffee Roasters .” This cozy haven opened its doors on October 1st, 2023, and it sits on a 10 minute walk from Hankyu Kyoto Line – Nishikyogoku Station, right next to Nishikyogoku Athletic Park. You’ll find it on the ground floor of the Atelier Yi:haus building, which houses an architectural firm, “yi:haus” , a delightful interior plant shop “ Grow “, and a trendy clothing store Monkey Crew (which is located in the container building right next door). The cafe is run and coffee is served by “Iwata Coffee” , who occasionally hosted coffee events at Yi:Haus before evolving into the Westend Coffee Roasters we know today.

As you step inside, you’ll be greeted by a predominantly concrete space, artfully adorned with warm materials, including an abundance of wood, fabrics, and cozy rugs. This spacious and stylish cafe emanates a comfortable atmosphere with a touch of retro and mid-century interior style. The generous use of wood, the corduroy or velvet sofa, the natural wood table or bar counter, presence of thriving plants, and the warm color palette all contribute to the cafe’s inviting ambiance. However, the pièce de résistance that steals the show is the charming DIY pendant light rack located in the back of the cafe, adorned with various Edison lightbulbs.
