About

Located in the countryside of Kyoto’s Oyamazaki area, famous for the Suntory Distillery, is the stylish coffee shop and beauty salon ‘ Siji Oyamazaki – instagram.com/siji_oyamazaki .’ Opened in July 2024, Siji Oyamazaki is just a 10-minute walk from Hankyu Kyoto Line’s Oyamazaki Station, situated on the hillside of Yoko Mountain. The café is housed in a renovated kominka, beautifully restored by the Kyoto-based renovation company RAKU . Much of the original structure has been preserved, evident in the exposed wooden beams, sand walls, and several original windows, giving the space an authentic and nostalgic atmosphere.

The narrow entrance to the property is somewhat hidden behind a large hedge, located right off the road. From there, a stone pathway leads down to the shop’s entrance, where two large glass sliding doors provide a clear view of the stylish interior. Siji Oyamazaki serves as both a café and a hair salon, with the interior divided into two distinct areas. A full glass partition separates the café space from the hair salon. When the salon is open, guests can sit at the counter near the kitchen to enjoy their drinks or food. However, on Mondays and Tuesdays, when the salon is closed, the salon area doubles as additional seating, allowing customers to sit along the windows that offer a panoramic view of the town and the three railways—Hankyu, JR, and even the Shinkansen—as trains pass by.

The interior of Siji Oyamazaki is beautifully designed, featuring a modern Japanese aesthetic with a focus on natural materials. The space feels intimate, with warm wood tones and textures creating a welcoming and cozy atmosphere. The overall design is minimalist yet thoughtfully executed, seamlessly blending traditional Japanese elements with a contemporary café vibe. The interior features beautiful pendant lights ( Light Capsule by Peter Ivy , Sjoborre pendant light ) and furniture from Hirakata’s Furudougu Donguri .

The menu at Siji Oyamazaki features a variety of drinks, baked sweets, and other food options. Beverage choices include coffee made with Siji Oyamazaki’s original blend (also available for purchase), espresso, drip coffee, Americano, café latte (700 yen), and affogato. For baked goods, you can enjoy the delicious daily selections displayed in the kitchen’s glass case—such as scones, cookies—and seasonal treats like carrot cake, cheesecake, shortcake, and more. The menu also offers sandwiches, hot dogs, and during the summer, refreshing bowls of shaved ice.

If you’re using Google Maps to navigate from Oyamazaki Station to Siji Oyamazaki, it may suggest a route on the left side of the Hankyu train tracks. However, the best route is to follow the Shin Saigoku Highway / Mozume Highway, which runs in front of the station exit to the right. Continue along the road until you reach blue storage containers and a T-junction. Turn left here, and you’ll find a narrow railway crossing. Cross the tracks and then the bridge over the next set of rails, head uphill toward the road, and take a right. After 20 meters, you’ll reach the entrance to Siji Oyamazaki.

The café offers parking for both cars and bicycles, though please note that car parking is only available on Mondays and Tuesdays, when the hair salon is closed. Bicycle parking is available every day.

Siji Oyamazaki is a stylish café with a beautiful interior, where you can enjoy their delicious coffee and food while taking in the scenic views.
