Root2 Coffee Tofukuji (instagram.com/root2_coffee/) opened on April 10 in a beautifully renovated kominka located just around the corner from the entrance of Tofukuji Station on the Keihan Line. You’ll instantly recognize the café by its striking brown brick façade, accented with the distinctive √2 logo above the entrance. The two-story café features a striking atrium and original sand walls preserved behind large sheets of plexiglass, allowing guests to admire the traditional architecture without risk of damage. This is the third location of Root2 Coffee, joining its sister cafés in Nijo and Umegahata, and is part of a broader brand that also includes a hotel. On the second floor, a DJ booth with turntables and a wall of vinyl records adds a unique character to the space, with background music played directly from the setup throughout the café.

The interior blends minimalist design with warmth and comfort. The first floor offers tables and benches, while the second floor provides cozy sofas and counter seating, all set within a space filled with natural light from large windows.
