About

In higashiyama, near world heritage site Kiyomizu temple is a new cafe called ‘Loose Kyoto’.

Loose Kyoto is located along one of the 3 main roads that lead to Kiyomizudera, a prime location for a cafe. It’s not surprising that the cafe is crowded as soon as it opens.

Besides a wide selection of coffees, Loose Kyoto’s main item is their freshly baked donuts which you can order with or without custard cream. Either are heavily recommended.

The cafe’s interior is extremely minimal and works with only a few materials and no decoration. From the entrance on the left side to the back is one long bench made from wooden beams packed together. The same design is used for kitchen counter.

One interesting element of this cafe is the few small metal tables next to the bench that are hooked to a rail. This means they can be moved and give people the option to use the table or not and slide them over.

Across of the long bench in the back of the cafe are some smaller benches and even an outdoor area with a bench. Again, everything is very minimal.

Loose Kyoto is the perfect choice when visiting Kiyomizudera or when wandering around in the Higashiyama area. Their freshly baked donuts are worth it.
