HaHaHa HayashiRice & Jewelry

In the port area of Osaka nearby Chuo Line’s Osakako station is ‘HaHaHa HayashiRice & Jewelry’ , a cozy cafe that sits on the second floor of the old Coleman museum building. The building used to house a former shipping company and sits along the crowded Minato road with a lovely retro brick exterior.

The café can be accessed by the steep metal stairs in the front of the building, be careful when climbing up or down the stairs and make sure to grab the railing especially when it has rained. Up the stairs you will enter the entrance hall of the building with many vintage items and kids book on display. The double door on the left with the white matte glass windows is the entrance to HaHaHa HayashiRice. Inside you will be welcomed by a lovely spacious vintage interior with hardwood floors, tables and chairs. The interior is decorated with antique items and even features a large old safe in the middle of the shop.

The café has one large table for 6 persons, four tables for 4 persons and a few counter seats next to the accessory area with most of the seats having a view from the windows. Near the entrance is a small kids area which makes this café ideal to visit for parents with kids. Especially in the spring with the green bushes growing in front of the building and covering the windows partially, in combination with the sunlight give the interior an even cozier atmosphere.

As the name says, the menu consists of course of Hayashi rice (hashed beef rice) but there is also omuraisu (rice covered with omlette), pork pocket bread (which is a pita bread filled with pork) plate, sandwich plate and even cake. The plates are quite large and come with a small bowl of soup that changes depending on the season.

HaHaHa HayashiRice & Jewelry is a lovely retro café with a cozy atmosphere that sells delicious lunch and is conveniently located near Osaka Kaiyuukan Aquarium which makes it great to visit in combination with an outing.
