About

‘ Gospel Cafe ‘ in Kyoto is a charming retro cafe that is located near Philosophers path and Ginkakuji Temple. The cafe is housed in a large Western style building that was formerly a house, designed by the architect Merrell Vories Hitotsuyanagi in 1984. Today, the first floor is an antique shop while the entire second floor is dedicated to the cafe. The building is easy to spot, with its white exterior covered in ivy and fishscale roof.

The cafe space is quite large, and there are beautiful lace curtains on the windows and antique and wood furniture that give it a cozy and inviting feel. The entire room is lovely, including the large open kitchen space in the back. The place is big enough to accommodate large groups of 5 to 6 people, and the English tea setting is perfect for enjoying a cup of tea with friends. The use of vinyl records also adds to the cafe’s antique vibe.

If you’re in the mood for something sweet, Gospel Cafe is the perfect place to visit. The cafe sells delicious sweets such as cake and scones, with the latter being particularly popular. The scones are big with a crispy exterior and a fluffy interior, making them a delightful treat that pairs perfectly with a cup of tea.

Overall, Gospel Cafe is a lovely cafe with a retro and relaxing vibe. The friendly staff, delicious sweets, and convenient location make it a great spot to visit when exploring the area. It’s just a 10-minute walk from Ginkakuji temple, so it’s a perfect place to stop by for a quick break and enjoy some tea and sweets.
