Located in Kyoto’s Nakagyo Ward, ‘STICKS COFFEE Kyoto Oshikoji’ (instagram.com/sticks_coffee.kyoto) is a stylish café situated in a renovated Kyo-machiya, a traditional Kyoto townhouse with over 150 years of history. The cafe opened on March 1, 2025, just a 5-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station, and features an exterior that seamlessly blends traditional Japanese architecture with a rustic, modern charm. The café’s entrance is marked by a distinctive navy-blue noren curtain bearing the word “橋屋” (Hashiya) complemented by classic elements such as a tiled roof and wooden accents as well as a metal lattice frame on one side. The muted tones and weathered textures give it a timeless Kyoto aesthetic, while a wooden bench and stone seating at the entrance create a welcoming and laid-back atmosphere.

STICKS COFFEE Kyoto Oshikoji features a minimalist interior with warm wood paneling, exposed beams, and sleek concrete floors, creating a clean yet inviting ambiance. The space features wooden bench seats with small side tables in the front near the kitchen counter, while in a separate elevated area at the back, high tables with metal stools are arranged. Originally established in Hyogo Prefecture’s Asago City, STICKS COFFEE has garnered a loyal following for its dedication to quality. The Kyoto branch continues this tradition, offering hand-dripped coffee made from a selection of five carefully chosen beans, each highlighting unique flavors from specific regions and farms. Complementing the coffee are their signature handmade churro-style donuts, available in flavors like Uji matcha, black sesame & soybean flour, and sakura & strawberry, bringing a unique twist to the traditional Spanish treat.
