Root2 Coffee Tofukuji (instagram.com/root2_coffee/) opened on April 10 in a beautifully renovated kominka located just around the corner from the entrance of Tofukuji Station on the Keihan Line. You’ll instantly recognize the café by its striking brown brick façade, accented with the distinctive √2 logo above the entrance. The two-story café features a striking atrium and original sand walls preserved behind large sheets of plexiglass, allowing guests to admire the traditional architecture without risk of damage. This is the third location of Root2 Coffee, joining its sister cafés in Nijo and Umegahata, and is part of a broader brand that also includes a hotel. On the second floor, a DJ booth with turntables and a wall of vinyl records adds a unique character to the space, with background music played directly from the setup throughout the café.

The interior blends minimalist design with warmth and comfort. The first floor offers tables and benches, while the second floor provides cozy sofas and counter seating, all set within a space filled with natural light from large windows. 京阪線東福寺駅の東出口を出てすぐ右に曲がると、本町通沿いに、2025年4月にオープンした「Root2 Coffee 東福寺店」(instagram.com/root2_coffee/)があります。美しい茶色のタイルと、入り口の上にある√2のロゴが目印で、すぐに見つけられます。古民家をリノベーションしたカフェで、2階建ての建物には、入口すぐに大きな吹き抜けがあり、土壁をはじめとする建物の風合いが可能な限りそのまま残されています。土壁の前には、大きなアクリル板が設置されており、来店客が誤って触れたり傷つけたりするのを防ぎつつ、昔ながらの趣を楽しめるよう工夫されています。

二条エリアと梅ケ畑外畑町エリアに続く、Root2 Coffeeの3店舗目となる東福寺店。2階にはターンテーブルが設置されたDJブースがあり、壁一面にはレコードが並んでいます。このDJブースから流れるBGMが、店内の雰囲気に個性を加えています。

店内はミニマルデザインと和の要素が融合したインテリアになっています。1階にはキッチンとオーダーカウンターのほか、カウンターチェア、テーブル席、ベンチ席があり、2階には居心地の良いソファ席とカウンター席も用意されています。大きな窓からは自然光がたっぷり差し込み、心地よい雰囲気を演出しています。

メニューはコーヒーがメインで、エスプレッソ、アメリカーノ、ラテ、カプチーノ、ブラックハニーラテ、キャラメルシナモンラテが用意されており、ホットとアイスが選べます。ショットの追加やオーツミルクへの変更も追加料金で可能です。デカフェも提供しています。コーヒー以外には抹茶ラテやジュースもあります。食事メニューは朝ごはんがあり、11時まで注文できます。サーモントーストやバナナナッツトーストのほか、バスクチーズケーキなどの軽食も提供されています。
