Bastet Coffee

BASTET COFFEE is located in Ichijoji, a neighbourhood in Kyoto’s Sakyo Ward known for its independent cafés and bookshops. The café is approximately a four-minute walk from Ichijoji Station on the Eizan Railway. If travelling by car, approach via the main roads around Ichijoji and use a nearby coin-operated parking lot, as the café has no dedicated parking spaces. There are zero on-site parking spaces.

Opened in 2024, BASTET COFFEE was established by a Japanese-Taiwanese couple who previously ran a coffee shop in Tainan, Taiwan, under the name 加加家珈琲. They brought their experience of Taiwanese coffee culture to Kyoto, creating a small independent coffee shop inspired by Bastet, the ancient Egyptian goddess associated with cats. The shop occupies a renovated residential building, giving it a more personal, homely character than a conventional commercial café. The interior combines antique furniture, warm wooden elements and cat-inspired details, while the exterior retains the understated appearance of a neighbourhood house. The building's original construction date and architectural history have not been publicly documented.

Coffee is the main attraction here, with the owners specialising in carefully roasted, light-roast speciality coffees. The beans are selected for their pronounced sweetness, fruity flavours and distinctive aromas, with both single-origin coffees and blends available. The menu also includes café lattes and handmade sweets, such as cakes and pound cake. One of the most unusual features is the second floor, which operates as a small manga-reading space on weekends, with approximately 3,000 manga volumes available. It offers visitors a chance to enjoy their coffee and spend time reading in a relaxed setting.
