RA Coffee

Another must-visit cafe in Okayama is RA Coffee (instagram.com/racoffee.japan) , a charming vintage spot located just a 15-minute walk from Kurashiki Station, on the outskirts of the beautiful Bikan Historical Quarter. Opened in April 2019, it’s part of the well-known Mimura Coffee chain, one of the most famous cafes in the Okayama area. The cafe is housed on the ground floor of an old building, easily recognizable by its black canopy with “Coffee” written on it and the bold RA COFFEE letters on the side. There’s a takeout window on the left, and the metal-framed glass doors on the right invite you into the cozy seating area.

The wall behind the counter of the take out window is lined with wooden shelves, filled with various old-fashioned coffee grinders, antique kitchenware, and retro containers, giving a nostalgic feel. The overall setup is cozy and cluttered in an organized way, evoking the sense of stepping into a historical space dedicated to coffee culture. The presence of pour-over coffee equipment on the counter reinforces the café’s focus on traditional, handcrafted brewing methods. The seating area has a rough, unfinished aesthetic, with walls showing exposed wooden beams and sandwalls. The tables and chairs are a mix of vintage and rustic styles, with wooden surfaces that are slightly worn, adding to the café’s charm.
